Huge congratulations to Maxime Desjardins, who took silver at the GKA Hydrofoil Freestyle World Cup 2021 riding the Koala!
The final competition day at Fortaleza served up 20-22 knot winds. Each rider had 15 trick attempts, with the top four scores counting.
Maxime's semi-final was against fellow French rider Cesar Natoly. The official GKA Kite World Tour sire reports, "Maxime was smashing out trick after trick and gaining a strong lead at the start. Natoly was riding strapless, so both athletes were really adopting a different style during this heat. Finally, it was Maxime Desjardins who pushed that little bit harder in the final moments and advanced to the final, with his powerful moves really gaining the judge’s attention".
It's a fantastic achievement for the young French rider, in his first major hydrofoil freestyle competition against the best in the world.
Charles Brodel from France won the event to become the Hydrofoil Freestyle World Champion, and Maxime is vice-champion. Maike Elisa Mueller from Germany won the women's competition.
